FreshGuide‘s latest deal (ending soon!) is $30 for $85 worth of yoga at The Pad Studios (1690 Union at Gough). If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it. I had a six month membership at The Pad this past year and loved every minute of it. It’s a really clean and hip-looking studio with great instructors and sweet owners. The power yoga classes are small, with fun music! And actually, the studio offers a 10 sessions for $10 deal for new customers, which you should try first before exercising this deal. I could go on, but I’ll just leave it at two thumbs up.

San Franciscans, and Americans, are generous folk. There’s been plenty of charitable giving and events for the people of Haiti all over the city — really too much to list. But I learned that La Boulange (2310 Polk St. at Green) is doing something special locally for earthquake relief, something that will mean more if you participate, so I wanted to share. The staff members from every La Boulange in the city have gratiously offered to donate all of the tips they make this Sunday, Jan. 31 to Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. The organization has been in Haiti for 19 years and already has roots established there, so it’s a smart choice. Better yet, La Boulange itself has decided to match all of the tips the staff earns on Sunday. So when you’re hankering for a fresh jus d’orange or some bread pudding after an indulgent Saturday night out this weekend, get your butt over to La Boulange and tip well.

First of all, let me say, “Who ‘dat!!!” Okay. Now that that is said and done, I’ll move on to my list of places to hang out in the area on the upcoming Superbowl Sunday. This list will inevitably be updated, and please feel free to contribute with events and specials in the comments.

  • If you’re a Saints fan, the best bar near Russian Hill to be in on February 7 is none other than Black Magic Voodoo Lounge (1400 Lombard at Van Ness). It has TVs like every other divey sports bar, but better yet, it’s got New Orleans locals and enthusiasts . . . and lots of liquor (including NOLA’s finest Abita Beer), so it’s bound to be lively. Please wear black and gold : )
  • Shanghai Kelly’s (2064 Polk at Broadway) will also be hosting their annual Superbowl BBQ party. The deal is open bar with barbecued grub. Ladies, it’ll cost you $40, and gents it’ll cost you $60 (if you’re somewhere in between, you should probably go to Divas). Seating is limited, though, so you should stop by the bar or call in to reserve your seat soon. (more…)

Casablanca Café (1609 Polk at Sacramento) has newspapered its windows. You bohemians will have to find a new place to smoke your smelly hookah and drink your discount beer. Interestingly enough (or not), the other Moroccan spots in the ‘hood, Tajine and Cossu, have also recently shuttered their doors — anyone want to cry foul?
